Healthy Homemade Gifts-in-a-Jar One of my family’s favorite Christmas traditions is to make homemade gifts in a jar. And the wonderful thing is, they’re as much fun to make together, as they are to give to others! Simply layer the ingredients of a favorite recipe in a jar, then add a festive ribbon and tag, and there you have it – a thoughtful gift made with love. There are certainly a ton of gifts-in-a-jar recipes out there, but unfortunately, many rely on unhealthy ingredients. So I thought it would be fun to share just a few of my favorites with the hope that this may help you to create some healthy homemade gifts of your own! And certainly, if you have some whole food based gift-jar recipes, please share a link to them in the comments below. 25 Creative Non-Treat Neighbor Christmas Gifts

Sometimes, the best gifts are simple, thoughtful, and clutter-free. We’ve compiled a list of some outside-the-box ideas for delighting the people you care about this season. Find the one that’s just right for the people on your “nice list!”

Homemade spice blends from Super Healthy Kids.

Mix up a batch of taco, marinara, or ranch spice blend to share with a neighbor. If you have a favorite recipe using these blends, add it too.

Bowl of fruit

Do you have a mountain of mandarins or a gazillion grapefruit growing on your tree? Even if you don’t, you can buy some in-season fruit to share and include a note wishing your neighbors a healthy and happy holiday.

Cookie ingredients, recipe, and cookie cutter

Using Super Healthy Kids whole wheat gingerbread cookie recipe as an example, into a gift bag, you can add a storage bag with the brown sugar, another storage bag with all of the other dry ingredients, a cookie cutter, and the recipe to lead to baking fun. Or you can make the cookies to hand out to your neighbors.

Paper plates from How Does She

Yep, paper plates, along with a note saying, “Don’t let your dishes pile up this busy holiday season. Let our family ‘do the dishes’ this week! Merry Christmas!” are a simple and thoughtful gift.

Pancake Mix from Skip to my Lou

Purchase a container of your favorite pancake mix- or you can use this homemade pancake mix recipe and include a note saying, “We’re “pouring out” Christmas wishes and hoping you have a Christmas to “flip” over.

Birdseed ornament by ChaChing on a Shoestring

Make birdseed ornaments, put them in a mason jar or storage bag, and attach a cardinal gift tag to give your neighbor’s lovely bird visitors.

Measuring cups or spoons. Most people can use a few more measuring cups or spoons, especially at holiday time. Attach a note saying, “Wishing you joy beyond measure.”

Tape on a magnet from How Does She

Tape rolls constantly disappear at my house, especially during the holidays. Help your neighbor find his tape anytime he needs it with tape on a magnet. Adhere a magnet to a roll of tape with the message, “Christmas time is always a rush, with so much to do and no time to hush. We hope this tape on the fridge in full site will keep you from the store one more night.”

Peppermint Bath Bombs by Super Healthy Kids

Give the gift of a soothing bath over holiday break!

Hand Soap from All Things Thrifty

Give your neighbors the gift of a germ-free Christmas! You can never have enough backup hand soap, right? And don’t forget the cute tag that says “Just soap’n you have a Merry Christmas”.

Muffin mix from Super Healthy Kids

Give 2 1/3 cup master muffin mix as well as instructions for how to make the muffins with additional mix-ins, along with a note saying, “You’re getting MUFFIN for Christmas.” If you prefer, you can bake muffins instead and use the same note.

Gingerbread Playdough Kit from The Idea Room

This playdough is so soft and smells heavenly! Best of all, it’s packaged dry so your recipient can mix it up whenever they want it.

Popcorn

Give a bag of microwave popcorn or a container of popcorn kernels with a note saying, “Just poppin’ by to with you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

Bread

Make mini or regular sized loaves of your favorite bread to share Christmas joy. Eat Sleep Make has an adorable printable for you to attach, and Super Healthy Kids has several bread recipes to pick from, such as banana pecan bread, pumpkin cranberry bread, and more. Six Sister Stuff has two great gift tag suggestions. One is “Any way you “slice” it, you’re sweet neighbors.” Another is “You have always been there when you were “kneaded.”

Gingerbread sugar scrub cubes from A Pumpkin and a Princess.

These sweet gingerbread sugar scrub cubes could be given with a note wishing your neighbors a relaxing holiday season.

Peppermint sugar scrub from A Pumpkin and a Princess.

This sugar scrub has a beautiful layered presentation, and again, it could be given with a note wishing your neighbors a relaxing holiday season.

Potted herb from Positively Splendid

Herbs smell amazing and are a practical gift that can be used in cooking. Attach a note saying, “Wishing you a flavorful holiday season.”

Blanket from Jacolyn Murphy

The holidays can be stressful- and cold!! Who wouldn’t love a cozy new blanket to snuggle up with on winter nights? Add a cute tag that says “Just settle down for a long winter’s nap!” or “To All a Good Night”.

DIY Snowman Kit from Inspiration Made Simple

How fun is this? Not only is it an adorable gift packed into a cellophane bag or little tin- but it has the bonus of being a great activity for the whole family! If you live somewhere that doesn’t get snow- try making a mini version with a container of white play dough! This gift is sure to be a hit with any family with younger children.

Lemonade from All Things Thrifty

Need a quick, last minute gift? This is perfect. Add a tag that says ‘You’re Simply the Best!’ and you’re good to go!

Printable Card Games from Making the World Cuter

We made this for our friends last year and it was a huge hit! Everyone is looking to spend more time with their families and friends during the holidays, and this was the perfect way to help them do that.

Trail mix from Super Healthy Kids

Make a trail mix, and throw in some whole wheat Chex. Then add a label as follows: Santa “Chex” his list twice so be comforted that as a neighbor you have been extra nice!

Bananas

Here is another healthy treat to share with your neighbors. Give them a bunch of bananas with a note saying, “You are the best BUNCH of neighbors.”

Root ‘Deer’ Floats from Thirty Handmade Days

So simple and fun- this gift is a real showstopper! Fun for kids- but I know a lot of adults that would go nuts for this.

Christmas potpourri from Twelve on Main

Help your neighbors have a house that smells of Christmas with this scent-sational Christmas gift.

Whether you choose one of the ideas listed above or a simple but meaningful note wishing your neighbors the happiest of holidays, taking the time to celebrate and bring joy to your neighbors and friends is a way to share and spread holiday cheer.

Gifts in a Jar for Christmas

Most of the mixes I see people make for Christmas are for things like cookies and brownies. But, what if you want gifts in a jar for Christmas that aren’t sweets? I’ve got a great one for you!

Because my husband is diabetic, I try not to make a lot of sweets to tempt him. And because many people are following diets to lose weight, sweet treats aren’t always appreciated by everyone on your list.

Let’s just not even mention the ten pounds people put on over the holidays. Nobody needs that!

But, the fact is that gifts in a jar for Christmas are an affordable and easy gift idea. You can easily make five or six of them up all at the same time.

And, the ingredients tend to be relatively inexpensive. If you’re looking for gifts in a jar for Christmas that aren’t sweets or desserts, you might want to consider a chili mix or a soup mix.

This Friendship Soup Mix is a great idea for people who want gifts in a jar for Christmas that won’t be too sweet. There is even a printable gift tag with the directions to go along with it.

Just scroll to the end for the recipe and the printable.

What can I fill a jar with as a gift?

Of course, you don’t have to make a mix for your gifts in a jar. There are a lot of things that you can put in a jar to gift to someone.

Why not consider one of these Mason jar gift ideas. Or, try making this healthy hot chocolate and gifting it in a jar.

These savory spiced pecans are paleo-friendly and make wonderful gifts in a jar. If you’re looking for gifts in a jar soup recipes, you are in luck!

Keep reading for this Friendship Soup Gift in a Jar Mix.

How to decorate Mason jars for Christmas

I typically just use an empty Mason jar and add the printable tied to the top with some ribbon. But, you can certainly put a piece of felt on the top of the lid to dress it up a bit.

Or, why not try adding jingle bells, a few sprigs of pine, or a Christmas ornament to the top. It’s really up to you and what you have available when you make gifts in a jar recipes for Christmas.

If you want to, you can add this gift mix along with a loaf of homemade bread to a basket as part of a larger gift. You could even include wooden spoons, pot holders, and a set of Christmas soup bowls. I just love these.

Can I use different types of pasta?

Definitely! This recipe uses ditalini which are small tube-shaped pasta. But, you could certainly use another type provided it was the same size.

If you use pasta that is too large, it won’t fit properly in the jar. Why not try this Christmas pasta?

That would definitely give your gifts in a jar recipes a little bit of pizzaz.

Is this gift in a jar mix gluten-free?

No, it is not. Because this mix uses pearl barley, it cannot be made gluten-free as-is.

You can remove the pearl barley from the jar and instead, add gluten-free pasta. You would need to add a bit more gluten-free pasta to make up for the room that the pearl barley was using. The end result should be fairly similar.

Now, if you want to give a Mason jar Christmas ornament instead of gifts in a jar for Christmas, here are a few things that you can try:

  • These Let it Snow ornaments are absolutely adorable. I love the way the lettering turned out. Check it out here.
  • Or, if you want an ornament that has a little bit of bling to it, these are stunning. You could easily change the color theme if you wanted to. Get the directions.

So, if you want gifts in a jar recipes that aren’t sweets, here’s the recipe for the Friendship Soup Gift Mix. Remember, it’s important to layer the ingredients in the order they are listed so the seasonings don’t fall to the bottom.

You can make your own Italian Seasonings as well. Check out my recipe for Italian herb spice blend. Or, you might want to try these Christmas peppermint brownies.

35 Healthy Christmas Cookies To Leave Out For Santa This Year

Nothing says "holiday vibes" quite like a giant plate of cookies. Can you think of a better way to get in the Christmas spirit than with a fresh tray of homemade treats, a giant mug of mulled wine, and a campy-but-weirdly-good Netflix movie? I think not.

From gingerbread to macaroons to frosted sugar cookies to chocolate chip, the classics never disappoint this time of year. But if you need a new recipe for your family's annual cookie exchange&mdashor just want to put your baking skills to the test&mdashthere are plenty of new-to-you, decadent, creative, and (dare I say) healthy Christmas cookie recipes out there just waiting to be baked.

Wait, did I really just say &ldquohealthy Christmas cookies?&rdquo Why yes, yes I did. What makes a holiday cookie healthier, exactly, really depends on your own goals and preferences, explains integrative nutritionist Marisa Moore, RDN.

Adding dried fruit or oats, for example, adds filling fiber to your cookies. Subbing gluten-containing ingredients for gluten-free ones, meanwhile, makes treats friendly for anyone with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. And, swapping out dairy for plant-based ingredients is a great choice for vegans or anyone who&rsquos edging towards a more plant-based diet. And, of course, cutting back on added sugar will help you stay below the recommended daily limit of about 12 teaspoons of the stuff.

However, there&rsquos absolutely such a thing as going too far when it comes to giving holiday cookies a healthy makeover. Even Moore doesn&rsquot recommend making totally no-sugar-added cookies or using

If you dream about your kitchen sink cookies all year long, don&rsquot mess with 'em. But if you&rsquore looking to add some healthier Christmas cookies to your holiday rotation, here are 35 sweet-as-can-be recipes you&rsquoll enjoy all season long.
