I divided the fluffy dough into 4 equal parts and spread 4 sheets with a thickness of half a cm, on baking paper.

My tray is 40 cm long and 28 cm wide.

Each sheet is spread on baking paper of the same size as the tray. By doing so, the sheet can be easily moved into the tray without losing its shape. Peel a squash, grate it and squeeze the juice.

Walnuts are mixed with vanilla sugar and caster sugar. Divide into 3 equal parts.


I greased the tray with butter and started to assemble the cake by putting a first sheet over which I spread a part of the jam, I sprinkled the walnut mixture with sugar and I continued with the other sheet, and so on until the last one that remains clean. Let the tray with the cake warm for 30 minutes to leaven and then put it in the preheated oven for an hour, at the right heat.

Pour the glossy icing over the cold cake and prepare in the microwave by putting all the ingredients in a bowl and mixing in it, from 30 seconds to 30 seconds, until a thick sauce has formed.


Portion and serve.

-350gr flour

Obs: put them all in the bowl at the same time, when it has become a viscous composition, remove from the heat and pour hot over the first sheet.

Method of preparation:

Mix the egg with the sugar and margarine, add the milk, the yeast dissolved in a little warm water, the ammonia quenched with vinegar, the smells and finally incorporate the flour resulting in a dough. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts than.

Greta Garbo cake is delicious, especially if served the next day. Apricot jam in combination with walnuts gives the cake a special taste. The icing is also delicious. If you don't like chocolate icing, you can replace it with coconut flakes or nuts.

Ingredient:

  • 500 gr flour, 250 gr sugar
  • 320 gr butter, 10 gr dry yeast
  • 100 gr dark chocolate
  • 200 gr apricot jam, 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Method of preparation:

Sift flour with baking powder and dry yeast in a bowl. Add warm milk, 100 g sugar and egg. Melt 250 butter in the microwave, allow to cool slightly, then pour into the flour bowl.

Knead the dough, then cover with food foil and place in a warm place. Leave to rise for about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Put the gaise jam in a blender, add the walnuts and the remaining sugar. Mix everything very well.

After the dough has risen, transfer it to the worktop and divide it into 3 equal parts. Each piece of dough is spread in a rectangular, thin sheet.

In a rectangular tray, lined with baking paper, put a sheet of dough and grease with half the filling of walnuts and apricot jam.

Cover with the second sheet of dough and pour the remaining filling. At the end, add the last piece of dough. Leave the cake aside for 30-40 minutes, then prick it with a fork and put it in the preheated oven at 180 degrees. Bake for 25 minutes.

To prepare the icing, break the chocolate into pieces and mix with 70 g of butter. Melt in a bain-marie or in the microwave.

Pour the icing over the hot cake. The cake is then left to cool, then refrigerated for a whole night. The next day it is cut into slices and served. Good appetite and increase cooking!

Ingredients for 4 sheets:
- 500g flour
- 200g soft butter
- 2 husband eggs
- 250g smanatana
- 100g vanilla powdered sugar
- a sachet of dry yeast
- a pinch of salt

Mix the dry yeast, powdered sugar, salt and flour, put them in a large bowl and make a hole in the middle. Separately, beat the eggs, mix them with sour cream and soft butter. Pour the mixture in the middle of the flour and knead until we have a homogeneous dough. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and leave it to rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Then divide the dough into 4 equal parts, from which we spread 4 sheets the size of the tray in which we bake the cake. It is recommended to use a large tray, at least 35 × 28 cm.

Ingredients for the filling:
- 500g ground walnuts
- 200g apricot jam
- 300g of rosehip jam
- 200g sugar

Mix all the ingredients for the filling until we have a homogeneous cream. For a crispier cake, you can chop the walnuts with a knife instead of grinding them with a machine.

Place the first sheet in the pan greased with a little butter, then put 1/3 of the filling. The second sheet follows, again the filling and we continue like this, until the filling is finished, and the last sheet remains free, because over it, the glaze will come. Let the cake rise in the pan for another 30 minutes, then put it in the oven heated to 180 ° C for 45-60 minutes or until the sheets are cooked. Let the cake cool before icing. For the icing, we use 200g milk chocolate, melted in a steam bath and mixed with 2 tablespoons of butter and a tablespoon of honey. Butter helps the glaze to be more glossy.

Tips for a successful cake:
- spread the sheets on the bottom of the tray you are going to bake. Turn the tray upside down, place a baking sheet, spread the dough on it. Thus, the dough sheet will be the perfect size and more, you can easily detach it from the baking paper to place it in the tray.
- If you do not want to glaze the cake, you can powder it with cocoa

Greta Garbo cake is one of the desserts that were not missing from childhood on the tables on birthdays or holidays. The cake with the name of movie star exists in the recipe books of our mothers and grandparents and, in addition to the great taste, it has at least an interesting story.

The cake was invented by a Hungarian confectioner in the mid-1800s. It was named after him and was served in his café, one of the oldest and most traditional in Europe. It is said that, after a few decades, Greta Garbo arrived in Budapest and tasted the cake. She liked it so much, and the cake became known in Hungary and later in Romania, with the name of the starlet.

The dessert is still prepared today and everyone knows the name it got thanks to the famous Swedish actress.

  • For sheets:
  • 600 g flour
  • 250 g lard or butter
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 egg + 2 egg yolks
  • 130 ml of milk
  • 2 sachets of yeast
  • a pinch of salt
  • the peel of a lemon
  • For the cream:
  • a jar of jam or jam
  • 300 g ground walnuts
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 sachet of vanilla sugar
  • For the glaze:
  • 100 g milk chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons liquid cream
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Mix the yeast with a tablespoon of sugar and a few tablespoons of milk and let it rise.

Put the rest of the sugar in a bowl together with the egg and the two yolks and beat with the mixer and a pinch of salt until you get a cream.

Put the flour and lard or butter in a bowl and knead until you get a crumbly dough. Add the yeast and beaten eggs with the sugar and knead, adding the milk little by little. At the end, incorporate the lemon peel and mix everything well.

Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Spread each piece of dough with the rolling pin. Place the first sheet in a tray lined with baking paper. Mix the ground walnuts with the sugar. Spread a layer of jam over the dough, then sprinkle with walnuts and sugar. Put the second sheet and do the same.

Continue until you reach the last sheet. You will no longer put jam and walnuts on top of the last sheet. Cover the cake and leave it to rise for another 45 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. When the cake has risen, put it in the oven for an hour. For the icing, melt the chocolate and mix it with 2 tablespoons of liquid cream and a tablespoon of oil.

Pour the icing over the cake after removing it from the oven. Allow the cake to cool and the icing to harden, after which you can cut it.


Greta Garbo cake with Râureni apricot jam

Greta Garbo cake, often present on festive tables in Romanian households, first appeared in our country in the ‘80s, in“ The cookbook for young housewives ”written by Silvia Jurcovan. This book was a great one for many mothers and grandparents, who have prepared this delicacy for generations. If you fancy a fine dessert, here is the recipe:

30 g yeast (or a sachet of dry yeast)

For the cream:

450 g of Râureni apricot jam (or any other type of jam, according to preference)

250 g of ground walnut kernels

For the glaze:

200 g caster sugar
125 ml of water
150 g of dark chocolate

How to prepare:

Mix the yeast and sugar in a bowl and let the composition stand for 5 minutes, until the yeast becomes liquid. Add the soft butter and mix well.

Then add the eggs, one by one and mix vigorously after each one. Cream, salt and lemon juice are added to this composition, after which it is mixed again very well. Incorporate the flour.

Then sprinkle a little flour on the work surface and knead the dough until the composition is homogeneous. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Do not knead too much so that the sheets come out tender.
Put the dough in a bowl, cover it with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm and sheltered place for 15-20 minutes.

After the dough has risen, sprinkle some flour on the work surface again. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Take one of the pieces of dough and shape a rectangle. Then roll out the dough with a whisk.

Put the first sheet in the tray. Then, using a spoon, spread a generous layer of Râureni apricot jam (1/3 of the amount). Then sprinkle evenly ground walnuts and powdered sugar.

If you want to experience something special, you can use a different jam for each leaf (apricot, sour cherry, rosehip).

Repeat the procedure with the remaining leaves, jam and sugar. The last sheet is left simple.

Cover the tray with a towel and let the cake rise in a safe place for another 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

Then put the tray in the oven and bake the cake for about an hour. After the first 10 minutes, the oven temperature drops to 180 degrees Celsius. Check the cake after 30 minutes. If the surface is already browned, you can cover the tray with aluminum foil to avoid burning.

Take the cake out of the oven and let it cool for a few hours. After it has cooled completely, prepare the glaze.

In a saucepan over low heat add sugar, water and dark chocolate. Stir gently and simmer for about 5 minutes. Leave the icing to cool for 1 minute, until it reaches a moderate temperature.

Pour the icing evenly over the cake and leave it to cool. After it has cooled, cut the cake into rectangles or rhombuses to serve.
